Learning to draft a pattern from a ready-made garment taught me many things besides the drafting of the pattern itself. I leaned to pay attention to detail and to use appropriate tools. It taught me to not be afraid of making mistakes (of which I made many) and to use my imagination to create a new garment of my own design. This course freed me from my reliance on set patterns, I now feel more competent at modifying or correcting my sewing conundrums.

The instruction in the first class provided a good overview about drafting a pattern from my chosen dress. However, despite spending a lot of time at home during the week between lessons tracing off the pattern and constructing a toile (which worked well despite some fit issues), the assistance and instruction on how to make modifications to perfect the fit was limited and unsatisfactory. After raising my concerns and disappointment with Thread Den, a suitable outcome was not reached.
