Measurements Workshop

See yourself here? Book soon. 5546 people viewed this class.

In a two hour workshop we'll share with you game changing knowledge that will take you to a place where you make clothes you'll actually wear!

Have you had a sizing disaster and your not sure why? Pattern sizes are not the same as the sizes when you buy clothes! We're going to help you understand why.

This workshop will cover:

  • How to take measurements accurately.
  • Where to take the measurements on your body.
  • How to choose your size on the back of a pattern envelope.
  • How to work out a pattern's finished size.
  • What "ease" is.
  • The vast difference between retail sizing and dressmaking sizing.
  • How you can adapt patterns to fit the fact that our bodies are all different sizes.

Parking Info
  • We are located at Level 1, 329 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.  It's a red door on the street between an Afghan restaurant and the N2 Gelato Bar.  If you are putting this into your GPS for directions - make sure that the address is NOT coming up as North Fitzroy. That's a couple of kilometres down the road. Totally not where you need to go.
  • Parking near Thread Den: There is very little free parking. Brunswick Street is all ticketed and restricted to as little as 2hours during some hours of the day.  Surrounding streets can also be difficult.  However, you can park for longer in the paid Coles Car Park.  When you look it up online it is listed as Johnston Street, however access is via Argyle Street.  If you park on level 1 or 2 and spend over $30 at Coles, you can get your parking for up to 4 hours reimbursed in Coles.
  • Catch the tram. Public Transport is the ideal way to get to Thread Den - jump on the number 11 Tram and get off near the Johnston Street intersection.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

On occasion, Thread Den is forced to cancel a class due to low booking numbers. We really don't like to do this as we love to teach people to sew, knit and crochet, but if we don't cover our costs we can't run the class. In instances where Thread Den must cancel a class, enrolled participants will be notified 24 hours or more prior to the scheduled class and will receive a credit for a replacement class or a refund as required.

There are no refunds due to change of mind.

The understanding measurements was a very good workshop well run and everything explained really well by our teacher Laura. I would highly recommend it.

15 July 2018 • Understanding Measurements Workshop ✄

Personally I was there to find out more about ease, as it turned out it was just reading through the booklet, extremely brief, with no further explanation. Guidance in accurately taking the body measurements was not satisfactory either, since some of us were unfamiliar with that. Placing the tape measure slightly higher or lower would give your a complete different reading, again no guidance unless you asked. The public can get such information on internet, By doing a workshop you expect to get a more thorough explanation from the teacher. I got nothing out of the workshop, I left feeling I wasted my time.
